T2007 Winter T

Family Rettreat

March 24-25, 2007

Embassy Suites, Piscataway (Somerset), NJ

The 2007 Winter Family Rettreat was at a new central location, at the newly renovated Embassy Suites, 121 Centenial Avenue, Piscataway (Somerset), New Jersey 08854, just off of I‑287 exit 9 (River Road) Highland Park.

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to all the families who were able to join us.  We hope to see you again.

In the past families & extended families coming from New Jersey and the surrounding regions have joined us.  All Rett families & extended families that can join us are very welcome.  This is not a formal conference but a regional Rett family friendly gathering & event.

A special 2007 Winter Family Rettreat booklet with optional contact information for participants who wish to stay in touch was created & provided free to all families along with a large packet of materials.

Cynthia Newman, MSW, LCSW (Director of Mid-Jersey Regional Early Intervention Collaborative) conducted a workshop on Saturday for the Parents of Siblings of Children with Special Needs (of course our girls were welcome to be there).  There was also a simultaneous activity for Siblings of Children with Special Needs.

The workshops were free even for those who did not stay overnight.

We obtained a discount conference room rate for the Embassy Suites two room suite with two queen size beds of $125 (plus tax).  Included with the room was a manager’s reception on Saturday from 5:30 – 7:30 PM with a variety of complimentary cold beverages (a free mixed drink, wine or beer for adults & a soft drink for the kids) & on Sunday morning a cooked-to-order full breakfast included excellent made to your specifications omelets and much more for two adults & their children.

The pool was available until at least 9:00 PM on Saturday & again Sunday morning until checkout at noon.

This past year an optional, but highly attended, family buffet dinner at 6:00 PM was arranged to avoid wasting time traveling for dinner, dealing with the crowds and waiting to be served, was a great success and gave us more time together to relax and enjoy each other’s company & the facilities.  For only $18 per person (includes gratuities & taxes) we had hot pasta with meat sauce, chicken fingers, pizza, fruit salad, drinks of soda & iced water.  Because we are had the buffet dinner we had use of a 1400 sq. ft. conference room starting at 3:00 PM Saturday at no additional cost (this normally would be a $780 charge).
